What the Pro Sports Challenge is all About...
GO FOR THE GOLD !!! RUN, JUMP, TUG, TOSS, SHOOT, AND SWING your
way into the winner's circle at PRO SPORTS CHALLENGE. Sign up your company's team
for a mini-Olympic day of fun and competition. Raise funds to guarantee recreation
and a better life for people with severe mental retardation and multiple handicaps.
The monies raised from the Pro Sports Challenge provide recreational funds for Lower
Fairfield Center - a state-run home for 72 people who are profoundly retarded.
The Center is located in Norwalk and serves families from Fairfield County and beyond.
The residents at LFC are so fragile that they require 24-hour nursing and occupational,
speech, and physical therapy. These residents are between 18 and 55 years old and cannot
live without support. Approximately one third of the residents are wheel-chair bound.
Many have seeing and hearing impairments. Parents and Friends of Lower Fairfield Center and
Associated Group Homes, an advocacy group at the Center, monitors and spends the monies we
raise, as well as supporting group homes in this area.
The Pro Sports Challenge has grown in size and character every year of its existence.
In 17 years, we have raised $1.4 million dollars. We provide for recreation, we have refurbished a
25-year-old facility. We provide Christmas and other holiday parties for residents and staff.
We have purchased special adaptive equipment such as walkers, wheel chairs, wheelchair
van and sensory training toys. We are making a measurable difference in the quality of
life of these special people.
PRO SPORTS CHALLENGE is a 100% VOLUNTEER EFFORT! The PRO SPORTS CHALLENGE was created
to ensure that recreation will be provided for people with severe and profound mental
retardation - people who would otherwise live without the recreation and interaction
that the Pro Sports Challenge provides for them.
Can we count on you to join the PRO SPORTS CHALLENGE TEAM?
This is a WIN-WIN DAY OF FUN for your employees and provides much-needed help
for people with mental retardation. Help us "MEET THE CHALLENGE" and reach our
energetic and worthy goal.
